Sanskruti School

Our school trains students in the south-Asian dance form Bharatanatyam. We also offer Bollywood dance classes to adults.

We started Sanskruti School of Dance in 2007 to train students from all age groups and with different cultural backgrounds in Cambridge, in the south Asian classical dance form called Bharatanatyam. The school’s aim is to holistically train students in performing arts allowing students to build confidence, create, imagine and express, their thoughts and feelings. We help develop a sense of discipline, commitment and professionalism in students towards their art form, which are all transferrable skills that an individual makes use of throughout life. We offer regular classes at different locations in Cambridge and promote our students to give public performances and participate in national level dance competitions. Our teachers are all well-qualified with CRB checks. We are member of ISTD board of examinations with our students taking ISTD dance exams each year and eventually preparing for their ‘Arangetrams’ or professional stage debut. Moreover, we are one of the eight successful dance schools across UK, that were awarded One Dance UK’s teaching mentoring 2017-2018. Our dance school was recently selected for Akademi’s Oral History Project in 2020.

Along with Bharatanatyam, we also offer Bollywood dance classes for adults and children who wish to use dance as a medium of excercise and well-being.

‘He did not dance for the audience. He did not dance for appreciation. He did not dance for the music. He danced only for himself… He had opened himself and the dance had come to him.’
